U.S. should focus on diplomacy and development in Iraq

On March 21, the Middle East and South Asia Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing to discuss the current security situation in Iraq.

Subcommittee Chairman Steve Chabot noted Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s efforts to arrest Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi on terrorism charges as well as his removal of Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq without regard for procedures established in the Iraqi constitution.Â
