postheadericon Poll: Arizona now ranks as toss-up

Mitt Romney holds just a two point lead over President Obama in Arizona, giving the president's re-election team hope they could pick up the state's 11 electoral votes in the fall.

Arizona is one of the few places Obama can play offense after his commanding victory in 2008, and the president has already indicated that targeting Latino voters and the southwest will play a major part in his campaign strategy.

The poll showed that Mitt Romney was the choice of 42 percent of Arizona voters, versus 40 percent for the president, according to a new Merrill/Morrison Institute poll. The president holds a 10-point lead among independent voters, although the polling firm cautioned the sample size was small and that more than a third of independent voters were still undecided.
