postheadericon Obama rides high popularity numbers to 8-point lead over Romney in Nevada

President Obama has opened up an 8-point lead over presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney in Nevada, a crucial swing state that will be central to his defense of the White House.

That's a marked improvement for Obama over 2011 polls of a hypothetical head-to-head match-up, which showed a 1-point lead for Obama last July and a 3-point lead for Romney a year ago.

According to Public Policy Polling, the Democratic firm that conducted the survey, that's because Obama has significantly improved his favorability numbers in the state over the past five months, while Romney has seen a corresponding decline.
