postheadericon Obama congratulates White Sox pitcher on perfect game

President Obama called White Sox pitcher Philip Humber on Monday to congratulate him on throwing a perfect game.

Humber threw for nine innings against the Seattle Mariners without allowing a batter to reach a base on Saturday, making him the 21st pitcher in baseball history ever to do so. Humber was also the third pitcher ever for the Chicago White Sox to pitch a perfect game. Mark Buehrle in 2009 and Charles Robertson in 1922 both previously pitched perfect games for the White Sox.

When Buehrle pitched a perfect game Obama, a proud White Sox fan, quickly called to congratulate him. With Humber, Obama called the following Monday.

"It definitely is an honor to speak to him," Humber said, referring to President Obama! 's call, according to MLB.com. "He just wanted to congratulate me. He even asked about Kristan and the baby and asked about how that was going.
