Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said Wednesday she uses her Twitter account as a means to keep herself "accountable."

McCaskill told CBS's "Early Show" that "public accountability" is one of the reasons she was able to lose 50 pounds this year.

"That public accountability -- sometimes it's not fun to be so public -- believe me, when I go to the grocery store, I hear about it," she said.

McCaskill said her social media strategy is to open a window for her Missouri constituents "to see that I've got the same kind of problems and challenges that everybody else does."
