Republicans debuted the logo and website for their 2012 convention in Tampa Tuesday, launching their portal for the August event.

“Today’s unveiling of the logo and first phase of our website are important milestones in our planning process," said convention Chief Executive Officer William D. Harris in a statement..

The logo was designed by Republican campaign veteran Marcia Brown of Alexandria, Va. who worked with the McCain-Palin campaign in 2008.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Republicans took a different design approach from Democrats, who unveiled their logo and website via Twitter last month. The Democrats' logo co-opts the Obama "O" logo from the 2008 election but replaces the red vertical stripes in the foreground with what appears to be a jubilant crowd, while the Republicans opted for a more traditional approach that includes the convention title, city name, and flag and elephant imagery.
