postheadericon Poll finds partisan split on Wall Street protests

The Occupy Wall Street protests are dividing voters along party lines, according to a new poll released Wednesday.

While 55 percent of Democrats say they approve of the protests, 44 percent of Republicans say they disapprove, the Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

Roughly the same percentage of Republicans and Democrats are undecided about the protests. The poll found that 35 percent of Democrats are undecided, while 32 percent of Republicans expressed that view.

The poll found that 22 percent of Republicans hold a favorable view of the protests, while 11 percent of Democrats have an unfavorable view.

The survey comes as the New York protests near their fifth week. A number of similar protests have popped up across the country. Some Republicans have dismissed the protesters, while many Democrats have tried to embrace them.

On Tuesday, after previously referring to the protests distressing "growing mobs," House Majority Leade! r Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said that the people were "justifiably frustrated."

"People are upset, and they are justifiably frustrated," Cantor said. "They are out of work. The economy is not moving. Their sense of security for the future is not clear at all. People are afraid, I get it."
