postheadericon Pelosi: Obama needs to 'very strongly, very clearly' sell voters on jobs bill

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) urged the president to continue his public efforts to sell his American Jobs Act legislation and downplayed any rifts between Democratic lawmakers and Obama over the package.

"Senate Democrats overwhelmingly are promoting it," said Pelosi of the jobs bill in an interview which aired Sunday on ABC's This Week.

"There are one or two -- a few that may have some concerns about one aspect of it or another. But what's important is the president is taking it to the people," she said.

The president met with Senate Democrats Friday to discuss his bill after Democrats modified the legislation to include a 5.6 percent surtax on millionaires and abandoned Obama's efforts to end oil and gas subsidies.

Pelosi urged the president to continue to sell voters on the proposal.

"You cannot just persuade people inside maneuvering. You have to have the outside messaging and mobilization so that people know if there's n! ot -- if jobs aren't created why they're not created," she said.
