postheadericon Pelosi denies criticizing Obama administration on messaging

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) office on Monday denied criticizing President Obama and his team of advisers over a lack foresight and the ability to communicate their message.

Pelosi was quoted in a Newsweek/Daily Beast article saying the Obama administration does “poorly” on message, and also reportedly criticized the administration for not getting ahead of the opposition.

“They can’t see around corners; they anticipate nothing,” Pelosi said of Obama and his advisers, according to the original article.

The Republican National Committee was quick to point out Pelosi’s criticism in an email to supporters Monday morning, and conservative bloggers called it significant proof of weakness in Obama’s base support.

The quote has since been retracted by the publication, with an editorial note saying the comment had been “erroneously attributed” to Pelosi.

"Leader Pelosi nor anyone on her staff said the words at! tributed to Leader Pelosi either on background or off the record," said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill. "Leader Pelosi spoke with Newsweek twice, and in both conversations she spoke positively of the White House’s messaging efforts."

Hammill added, "Our understanding is that this was an internal Newsweek miscommunication."

The outlet did not clarify the correct attribution for the quote.
