President Obama's reelection team announced Monday that the millionth person had donated to his campaign, news that should maintain the president's momentum after announcing last week that his campaign and the Democratic Nation Committee had raised a combined $70 million.

"This afternoon, the millionth person stepped up to make a donation to this campaignâ€"taking us to the extraordinary milestone of 1 million supporters owning a piece of this movement. It's a testament to the grassroots strength of this organization, and to the hard work that's already happening in communities and neighborhoods across the country," said a statement posted on the president's campaign website.

The campaign has been playing up the total within the last week, urging supporters to be part of the "first million to help fund this campaign."
