postheadericon Michelle Obama in Chicago for fundraising events, joins Mayor Emanuel as part of Let's Move campaign

First lady Michelle Obama is in her hometown of Chicago on Tuesday as part of a swing through the Midwest to fundraise for President Obama's reelection campaign and highlight her "Let's Move" campaign.

The first lady will join Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, President Obama's former White House chief of staff, in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon to speak at a local Walgreens on the importance of eating healthy. The first lady's visit and advocacy falls in line with the Let's Move campaign, which aims to reduce childhood obesity.

Obama's visit to the local Walgreens, which was expanded to provide groceries to the surrounding area, is part of Emanuel's mayoral food-desert summit. According to Emanuel's office, the summit is to "share best practices and explore new strategies that leaders can implement to support communities that lack the food they need." Reducing so-called food deserts and increasing access to groceries was a pillar of Emanuel's mayoral cam! paign.

As part of her visit to the Midwest and Chicago, Obama will deliver remarks at two Democratic National Committee events, one in Detroit and one in Chicago. The Detroit event is scheduled for around noon and Obama will give the remarks in Chicago on Tuesday evening.
