postheadericon Huntsman dismisses discussion of Mormon faith as waste of 'political-capital bandwidth'

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. (R) dismissed the national focus on his and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's (R) Mormon faith as a waste of "political-capital bandwidth."

"Discussion of Mormonism," Huntsman said Sunday according to CBS News, "doesn't create additional jobs, doesn't expand our economic base; it doesn't secure our position in the world. I have no idea why people are wasting so much political-capital bandwidth on this issue. It's nonsense."

Huntman's comments after a town hall at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire came after pastor Robert Jeffress at the Washington Values Voter Summit called Mormonism "the most ridiculous sideshow in recent politics" while introducing Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R). Jeffress said that voting for Romney would "give credibility to a cu! lt."
