postheadericon Congressional Democrats tweet a push for partial jobs bill

Democratic leaders pushed for passage of the first piece of President Obama's jobs plan Tuesday on Twitter, touting its benefits for teachers, police and firefighters.

"Poll shows 61% of Americans believe reducing unemployment is top priority. It’s time to take action on #AmericanJobsAct," House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) wrote on Twitter.

Hoyer was referring to an Oct. 17 CNN/ORC International poll, which reported that 61 percent of Americans prefer reducing unemployment to reducing the deficit. 

Senate Democrats introduced the bill, the Teachers and First Responders Act, on Monday. It provides $35 billion to support jobs for teachers, police and firefighters.
