postheadericon GOPers, Dems congratulate new DNC chairwoman

Both Republicans and Democrats offered their well-wishes to newly-appointed Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) via Twitter Tuesday night, after she was appointed to the position by President Obama.

The Florida congresswoman will fill the spot vacated by former Gov. Tim Kaine, who announced his candidacy for retiring Sen. Jim Webb's (D-Va.) Senate seat earlier that day.

Her soon-to-be Republican counterpart, Reince Priebus, was among the first to offer congratulations.

“@DWStweets Congrats on your new post - look forward to a spirited cycle as we discuss the best way to put Americans back to work,” Priebus tweeted.

Wasserman Schultz responded, “Thanks so much! Look forward to engaging you as we seek to win the future!”

Some of Wasserman Schultz’s colleagues on Capitol Hill also offered their congratulations.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.):

Congratulations to my friend Debbie Wasserman Schultz (@DWSTweets) on being named Chair of the #DNC. A great pick! @TheDemocrats

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.):

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.):

Hari Sevugan, national press secretary and head of rapid response at the DNC:

Doug Heye, the former communications director for the RNC, tweeted:

Have to say, @DWStweets is a strong choice for DNC chair. Thought at the time House Dems made a mistake omitting her from leadership

Jeremy Bird
, Obama for America’s national field director, also approved of his boss’ choice for the chairmanship.

Huge congratulations to @DWStweets. She's a wicked smart, kind woman who will be a great DNC chair. Great pick, @BarackObama
