The office of Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) is investigating whether one of its staffers posted an obscenity against gays on a site discussing a provision of a recent defense authorization bill that would have repealed "Don't ask, don't tell."  

"We have seen the allegations and are moving quickly to understand the facts," Chambliss press secretary Ashley Nelson said Wednesday. "This office has not and will not tolerate any activity of the sort alleged. Once we have ascertained whether these claims are true, we will take the appropriate steps."

Joseph Jervis of "Joe.My God," which covers gay and lesbian issues, traced the Internet Protocol (IP) address of "Jimmy" â€" a user who posted a comment yesterday that "All F*ggots must die" â€" back to an office building in Atlanta where both Chambliss and Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) run their regional operations.

Isakson's spokeswoman told CNN that the IP address in question does not match their offices' computers.

The comment was posted to a "Joe.My.God" blog post discussing a procedural vote in the Senate Tuesday afternoon that halted a defense authorization bill which would have repealed "Don't ask, don't tell."

Chambliss' spokeswoman has not confirmed that the comment originated in their office.
