Former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.) said on Wednesday that he'd like to revive his political career, possibly with a run for office.

Kerrey, a former two-term senator, said he might think more about a run for office after the end of this year, when he leaves as president of The New School in New York City.

"I would really like to be able to get back in the political scene a little bit more than I was able to do when I was president of the New School," Kerrey said on "Imus in the Morning" on the Fox Business Network. "Perhaps into public service, in some more precise way."

Kerrey has flirted before with a return to office since leaving the Senate in 2001. He had openly considered r! unning again for Senate in 2008, and had recently been set to take over the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) before the deal fell through.

The Democrat said he hadn't been talking to anyone about a run for office, but that it was possible.

"It's possible," he said, explaining that whether he makes a bid depends on "serendipity and health."

"If I stay healthy and the moment comes, it's possible," he said. "I like public service."

In terms of Nebraska politics, Sen. Ben Nelson (D) is up for reelection in 2012, while Sen. Mike Johanns (R) isn't up until 2014. GOP Gov. Dave Heineman is running for reelection this fall.
