postheadericon Poll: Americans split on Iraq progress

Americans are evenly split on whether the U.S. is succeeding in Iraq, according to a new Gallup poll.

Fifty percent of respondents said things are going either "very" or "moderately" well in Iraq, compared to 48 percent who say things are going "very" or "moderately" badly.

The results represent a slight decrease in optimism over the last six months.

Nevertheless, 54 percent of respondents still said it was a mistake for the U.S. to invade Iraq.

Gallup summarizes: "The Iraq war remains unpopular with the majority of Americans, though in recent years there has been a growing belief that things are going better for the U.S. in Iraq than was the case before the surge of U.S. troops."
