postheadericon FLOTUS to speak at Clinton Global Initiative meeting

First lady Michelle Obama will speak at the closing ceremony of the Clinton Global Initiative's sixth annual meeting in September, according to an announcement Thursday. 

President Obama addressed the group at its meeting last year.

The four-day event will also include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former first lady Laura Bush, Cherie Blair, Melinda Gates, and White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, among hundreds of other political, corporate and media leaders.

According to the announcement, this year's meeting will emphasize women's empowerment, market-based solutions, "human potential" and access to technology as its four new "action areas."

It will also offer special discussions on the state of affairs in Haiti and inequality in access to cancer treatment.

Founded in 2005 by former President Bill Clinton, the group aims to bring together leaders to "devise and implement innovative solutions to some o! f the world's most pressing challenges." 

The meeting will take place in Manhattan Sept. 20-23.
