On August 29, 2010 there will be festivities in Astana, Kazakhstan, and many other cities around the world marking the first “International Day Against Nuclear Tests.” This event, declared last year by the UN General Assembly, is intended to focus international attention on the urgent need to reduce the threat of nuclear weapons to mankind and, ultimately, to free the world from nuclear weapons. Since the first days of our independence, Kazakhstan has not only shared this dream, but has worked to make it a reality.
