postheadericon Dems, Boehner spar over 'special interest' comment

The Democratic National Committee quickly cut a Web video this week criticizing House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) for his comments about legislation to provide federal funds to states.

Democrats passed a $26 billion package this week to help bolster state budgets. Boehner said the bill was a "payoff to union bosses and liberal special interests."

The bill included about $10 billion to prevent teacher layorffs, so the DNC quickly released a Web video featuring public school teachers reacting to Boehner's comments (see below).

Boehner's office, however, said the billions of dollars was just another example of failed stimulus spending.

"Everyone wants to help teachers, but that's not what we're talking about," said Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner. "When union bosses said, 'Jump,' Democratic leaders said, 'How high?'

"When is it enough? How much more spending and taxing and bailouts do Washington Democrats want? The Am! erican people are asking, 'Where are the jobs?' but Democratic leaders are doubling down on more failed 'stimulus' spending."
