postheadericon Poll: Obama edges Romney, Christie top VP pick

President Barack Obama holds a narrow four point lead over presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, while New Jersey Governor Chris Christie polls best among potential GOP running mates according to a new national survey released Thursday by Quinnipiac University.

President Obama is the choice of 46 percent of voters, versus 42 percent for Romney, a lead largely built on the fact that Obama is considered an extremely likable candidate. More than eight in ten Americans say the president is likable, compared to just 63 percent for Romney.

The president is also seen as more empathetic than the former Massachusetts governor, with some 57 percent of voters saying the president "cares about their needs and problems," compared to only 44 percent for Romney.
