Feminist icon Gloria Steinem weighed in on the controversy surrounding comments made by Democratic adviser Hilary Rosen about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, saying the incident had become "ridiculous" and a "carnival."

Rosen said last week that Ann Romney had "never worked a day in her life," drawing loud bipartisan condemnation and providing Republicans valuable ammunition in an escalating fight over female voters.

Rosen later apologized for the remarks, although the Romney campaign has continued to criticize â€" and raise funds off â€" the moment on the campaign trail.
