Former Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern was admitted to a Florida hospital Tuesday night after family members became concerned when the liberal icon would occasionally pass out or lose the ability to speak.

The 89-year-old former South Dakota senator was admitted to Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Fla. and is undergoing a series of medical tests, according to the Associated Press.

"He's comfortable. The tests are continuing to see if they can determine what's causing this," McGovern's daughter, Ann, told the AP.
