postheadericon Obama on missing Jeremy Lin play Miami: 'It's not fair'

President Obama, fundraising in Miami Thursday, lamented just missing his chance to see New York Knicks basketball star Jeremy Lin playing the Miami Heat.

“I just want you to know that I’m resentful I’m not going to the game tonight. I am mad about that," Obama joked to supporters at one event, according to the White House pool report. "It’s not right, it’s not fair. But I wish you guys all the best.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney previously told reporters that the president, an avid basketball fan, is "very impressed" with Lin, who took the Knicks to a seven-game winning streak that was broken last week by the New Orleans Hornets. The Knicks also lost in Miami on Thursday night.

According to the Associated Press, Obama was headlining an event in the home of Dallas Mavericks guard Vince Carter, where attendees also included former NBA stars.

According to the report, Obama demurred on the chance to play one-on-one with ! Carter, saying he "didn't bring my sneakers."

"I don't know what I would be doing with myself if I at least didn't have some basketball games around," Obama said.

The Associated Press also reported that Obama watched the first half of the Knicks game on Air Force One during the flight back to Washington, D.C.
