Warren Buffett escalated an increasingly contentious war of words with New Jersey governor Chris Christie Monday, sarcastically calling the governor's suggestion he "just write a check and shut up" a "touching response" during an interview with CNBC.

“It’s sort of a touching response to a $1.2 trillion deficit, isn’t it? That somehow the American people will all send in checks and take care of it?” Buffett said.

Christie made headlines when he told CNN last week that Buffett should just write a check to the government rather than advocating for tax reform that would increase the burden on the wealthiest of Americans.
