With the likely failure of the deficit-reduction supercommittee looming on Monday, Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) urged a return to the six-member fiscal commission known as the "Gang of Six."

Kirk tweeted: "If the #SuperCommittee fails, Congress should appoint the bipartisan #GangofSix to finish their work."

Kirk was not a member of the commission, but supported their work. Members included Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.), Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla.).
