Mitt Romney staked his claim as a defender of American entrepreneurs in a South Carolina speech on Tuesday, offering a strong rejection of the existence of American laziness, an idea he attributed to President Obama.

“I'm convinced America is not lazy, is not soft,” Romney said, a reference to comments Obama made over the weekend.

"We've been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades," Obama told American CEOs at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Honolulu. He was speaking about American businesses “tak[ing] for granted [that] people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America."
