As Newt Gingrich climbs to the top of the national polls in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, his campaign is bolstering its ranks with the hire of new staff in New Hampshire and a new national security advisory team.

In the Granite State, Gingrich is adding Jeff Chidester, rival Michele Bachmann's former state director. Chidester is the second former Bachmann aide to join the Gingrich team this month, after her New Hampshire staff quit en masse in late October, protesting what they called a lack of commitment to campaigning in the state.

He is the third addition to Gingrich's New Hampshire staff â€" which now has eight members â€" this month. Matt LeDuc, the other former Bachmann aide, joined as state communications director almost immediately after leaving the congresswoman's campaign.
