Secretary of State Hillary Clinton canceled a scheduled trip to London and Turkey Monday after her 92-year-old mother became ill, the State Department announced Monday night.

The secretary of state and former president spent much of the night at the George Washington University hospital in Washington, where the secretary's mother is being treated for an undisclosed illness, according to the Huffington Post.

Dorthy Rodham has been a close member of the Clinton family, moving from the family's Park Ridge, Ill. home to Arkansas when Clinton daughter Chelsea was born to be closer to the family. She made a similar move to New York after the family relocated following President Clinton's term in the White House.
