postheadericon Cain favorability sags as Americans skeptical of harassment denial

Allegations of sexual harassment continue to bruise the Herman Cain presidential campaign, with a new poll showing a 17 percent rise in those who see the candidate unfavorably as he continues to lose ground in the Republican contest.

More Americans perceive Cain unfavorably â€" 44 percent â€" than favorably â€" 29 percent â€" according to a new poll from ABC News and The Washington Post. And Cain's favorability numbers are down in nearly every demographic group, the result of voters who were previously undecided about the former Godfather's Pizza CEO breaking against him.

Of those surveyed, 44 percent believed the women who accused Cain of sexual harassment, while only a third said they believed Cain's adamant denials. Sixty-nine percent of those surveyed said that the allegations were a "serious matter."
