A spokesman for the Herman Cain campaign said Tuesday that Cain did not actually ask Henry Kissinger to join his cabinet when the men met earlier this month to discuss foreign policy in New York City.

"Mr. Cain did not ask Dr. Kissinger that question," said spokesman J.D. Gordon in an e-mail.

Cain said that he had offered Kissinger a place in his Cabinet in an interview posted by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Tuesday. 

"Dr. Kissinger turned my offer down to be secretary of state. He said he’s perfectly happy doing what he’s doing," the 2012 presidential hopeful said.
