postheadericon Sen. Vitter picks football over Obama's speech

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) said Wednesday he has more pressing needs than attending President Obama’s jobs address: Watching his home-state New Orleans Saints kickoff the NFL season.

“Will listen to President’s speech tomorrow carefully...from my priority area for job creation, #WhoDat nation,” Vitter tweeted, referring to a nickname for the land of Saints fans.

Vitter added that it will be a party: “Family & friends coming over for #Saints game tomorrow. On to recovery-- and SuperBowl!”

Following the White House announcement that the date of the speech was set for Thursday instead of Wednesday, White House Communications ! Director Dan Pfeiffer quickly addressed the possible football conflict. The administration scheduled the speech for 7 p.m., early enough to be over by the scheduled 8:30 kickoff.

Vitter's fellow Louisiana Republican Jeff Landry (R) picked up on the football theme by tweeting: “While #Obama talks about something he should've done 2 yrs ago, our Saints will do what they did 2 yrs ago - win!”

Landry's office confirmed to The Washington Post that he still plans to attend the speech.!
