postheadericon The Hill Hexagon: Obama's UN speech panned on Twitter

President Obama's speech last Wednesday to the United Nations General Assembly was met with mostly negative reactions on Twitter according to this week's Hill Hexagon.

An analysis of Twitter traffic by Crimson Hexagon found only 13 percent of the opinions expressed were positive with a majority, 51 percent, being negative.

37 percent of opinions were neutral in their appraisal of Obama's speech.

The smallest group, the 13 percent positive reaction, focused their praise on Obama's vow to veto a Palestinian statehood resolution.

Of the negative opinions, 13 percent criticized Obama for following Israel's lead on the controversy. 19 percent expressed general dislike for the speech. Another 19 percent expressed specific disapproval of the president's veto threat with many tweets calling for Palestinian statehood.

In his speech, the president warned Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to abandon demands for UN recognition of statehood. Obama stres! sed that a lasting peace could only come about through direct negotiations between Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

From Tuesday, Sept. 20, Crimson Hexagon analyzed 44,157 Twitter mentions of Obama's UN speech of which 57 percent provided relevant content.
