postheadericon Romney meets with UK Prime Minister Cameron

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) met Thursday with David Cameron, the United Kingdom's prime minister, during a trip to London.

Romney's campaign announced on Twitter that he had sat down with Cameron, the leader of the U.K.'s Conservative Party and right-leaning government, and included a picture of the two of them in discussion.

The meeting has symbolic importance, if nothing else, as a meeting between a potential would-be president and the prime minister of a top ally of the United States. There had been some thought that Romney might get a chance to sit down with the Tory leader during his jaunt to London, where the Republican presidential candidate has been raising money from e! x-pats.

President Obama's been relatively close with Cameron, too, who became prime minister in May of 2010, having phoned him routinely as world crises arose.

Among Cameron's political accomplishments has been an aggressive austerity plan for the U.K., which some Republicans in Congress have said the U.S. should emulate.
