postheadericon Rep. Braley: 'I stand with the lady'

House Democrats are wearing pins to show their support for a female colleague told earlier in the week that she is "not a lady."

Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) tweeted a picture Friday morning of himself wearing a pink button that reads, "We stand with the lady."

He tweeted, "Go @DWStweets - I stand with the Lady!"

Braley had the buttons made, according to Alex Krasov, communications director for Braley's office, and is handing them out to other members of Congress on request.

"Dozens of Members have asked for them already," Krasov said.

The pins are a result of an email GOP! Rep. Allen West (Fla.) sent to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) on Tuesday evening in which he called her "vile," "despicable," and "not a Lady." West refused to apologize in the aftermath, despite pressure from House Democrats who have called the comments "sexist" and "over the top."

Braley is "very good friends" with Wasserman Schultz, Krasov said. "He felt this was a good way to show how many members support her and respect her as a fellow member of Congress after this week's harsh words."

Braley also changed his profile picture to a picture of the pin; other members of Congress followed suit on Friday, including Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio).
