At today's White House press conference, The Hill's correspondent Sam Youngman asked President Obama about the political costs of the tense negotiations over the federal government's debt limit and budget priorities.

Obama responded, "I generally don’t read what’s said about me, even in The Hill." The president also said there were times when lawmakers had to "do things we don’t like to do that run contrary to our base."
