First lady Michelle Obama will attend former first lady Betty Ford's funeral.

Obama will travel to Palm Desert, Calif., on Tuesday for the funeral, the White House announced on Monday.

That funeral service is private. Ford's body will be flown to Grand Rapids, Mich., on Wednesday for a funeral service Thursday at the Gerald R. Ford Museum, according to media reports.

Ford was the wife of former President Gerald R. Ford, who succeeded President Nixon and served from 1974 to 1977. The former first lady's husband previously served as Nixon's vice president and represented Michigan as a member of the House of Representatives.

Ford died Friday at ! the age of 93 at a hospital in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Her husband died in 2006.
