Democrat lawmakers welcomed Vice President Joe Biden to Twitter on Tuesday.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) welcomed an "old Senate colleague" while Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) recommended following the Vice President.

Vice President Joe Biden's debut on Twitter Monday coincided with the July 4 holiday.

The first tweet from the Vice President's office exhorted followers to "take time to think about our troops & military families this Independence Day."

Biden's office will maintain the official feed, which will also include updates about the vice president's wife Jill, according to the White House blog.

"@VP will be on the road with the Vice President across the country and around the world, providing updates on the latest news and announcements coming out of [the office of the Vice President], as well as a behind the scenes look at Veep-life," wrote Amy Dudley, deputy press secretary to the vice president.
