postheadericon Can Obama win in 2012? 'Sure,' says Gingrich

It's certainly possible that President Obama will win reelection in 2012, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) warned Monday.

Gingrich said that Obama could beat Republicans in 2012 if they choose an "inarticulate" nominee for president.

"Sure," Gingrich said on WTPL radio when asked if Obama might win, "if you have an inarticulate Republican who can't defend our policies."

That marks somewhat of an unusual admission by Gingrich, a GOP presidential candidate in a field where candidates talk tough about how beatable Obama is in 2012.

To be fair, Gingrich said Obama "has a huge burden to carry" when it comes to the next election, primarily due to the poor condition of the economy. The former Speaker renewed his criticism of Obama as a "food stamp" president, while Gingrich promised to be a "paycheck president" â€" that argument, he said, would make Obama a one-term president.
