postheadericon Safe transportation of rodeo stock keeps America's rodeos operating

Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) will soon introduce legislation which would prohibit the interstate transportation of horses in a motor vehicle containing two or more levels (A.K.A. “double deckers”).
 
Such legislation was introduced in the 110th and 111th Congresses, by then-Rep. Kirk of Illinois, with co-sponsors Reps. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.). Should such legislation pass in the 112th Congress, it would have a significant negative impact on the rodeo industry and small businesses transporting horses and bulls for the over 600 sanctioned rodeos held annually across the nation.

Should such legislation become federal law, it would force rodeo livestock transporters to put more trucks on the road, hire more drivers, and increase fees to rodeo sponsors due to the drastic cost increase of transporting rodeo stock to rodeo events.
