GOP Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) on Thursday cracked wise about the negative effect embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) is having on the business of Congress.

"We can't get any work done up here. There are too many Weiner jokes floating around my staff and everyone is preoccupied," Paul said on conservative talker Sean Hannity's radio show.

On a serious note, Paul said that he finds it hard to believe Weiner can continue to be effective as a lawmaker with the firestorm surrounding him.

"I don't think this is helping our overall esteem in the eyes of the public," Paul added.

Weiner has rebuffed calls to resign from members of both parties after he admitted he sent sexually explicit photos and messages to multiple women using social media sits like Twitter and Facebook.
