postheadericon Health IT barriers for small medical practices must be removed

Small medical practices, like small businesses, are not immune from the barriers placed on them by ineffective and inefficient government burdens. As a registered nurse, I understand that a modern, efficient and well-equipped office is critical to the practice of medicine. Experts agree that health information technology (health IT) holds promise for all health care providers, and health IT is becoming more common, but the transition is slow.

Just last week, I chaired my second Healthcare and Technology Subcommittee hearing entitled, "Not What the Doctor Ordered: Health IT Barriers for Small Medical Practices." This gave me the opportunity to hear from experts about the adoption of health IT by small medical practices, the barriers that they face in transitioning to health IT, and some possible solutions.
