postheadericon We can all do our part

Earth Day marks a day of reflection for the American public, an opportunity to evaluate our efforts to protect our environment. Each one of us has the responsibility to protect the environment. After all, we borrow the Earth from future generations, and we owe it to these future inhabitants to protect it to the best of our ability.

My conservation work is just about the most selfish thing I do. I fondly remember spending time outdoors with my dear dad. We hunted and fished and Pop instilled a sense of respect for the environment in me. Years later, as a parent, I spent time with my own children hunting and fishing and enjoying the great out of doors. My goal was to instill the same respect for the environment in them. In fact, the sportsmen were the first conservationist and I am proud to count myself among them. I am proud of the role I played in many of our cornerstone environmental laws during my time in the House of Representatives.
