postheadericon Van Hollen: Both parties would take blame for government shutdown

Both Democrats and Republicans will be blamed if the government shuts down, according to the ranking member of the House Budget Committee.

"I think this hurts everybody because it says to the American people we can't get our act together," Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said in an interview with Bloomberg News. "It sends a bad signal to the international community at a time when we're coming up with what is an even more difficult decision which has to do with the debt ceiling and extending the credit of the United States."

According to a new Pew Research poll, a roughly equal amount of voters wo! uld blame Republicans and the White House if a government shutdown occurred. The poll found that 39 percent of voters would fault the GOP, while 36 percent would blame the Obama administration.
