Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney joined the chorus of possible Republican presidential contenders in praise of Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) 2012 budget.

Romney said he is "on the same page" as Ryan when it comes to the budget.

Ryan, the chairman of the House Budget Committee, released a budget blueprint that, starting in 2012, would slash $5.8 trillion in spending over the next 10 years in an attempt to balance the federal budget in two decades.

"I applaud Rep. Paul Ryan for recognizing the looming financial crisis that faces our nation and for the creative and bold thinking that he brings to the debate," Romney said in a statement. "He is setting the right tone for finally getting spending and entitlements under control."

"Anyone who has read my book knows that we are on the same page," added Romney.
