postheadericon Predator drone makes first strike in Libya

Two days after President Barack Obama authorized the U.S. military to use Predator drones for attacks in Libya, one of the unmanned aerial vehicles made the first strike on a rocket launcher near Misrata, according to NATO.

The multiple rocket launcher was being used against civilians by troops loyal to Moammar Gadhafi, the military alliance said.

U.S. forces handed over control of the Libyan military operation to NATO in March, and the U.S. military assumed a supporting role. But as the fighting has continued between rebels and pro-Gadhafi forces, and a stalemate appears possible, the Obama administration has criticized for not doing enough to topple the longtime Libyan leader.
