postheadericon Poll: Majority of Republican voters unenthusiastic about presidential field

A majority of Republicans are unenthusiastic about the GOP field, a new poll found.

Fifty-six percent of Republican voters in a New York Times/CBS News survey could not name anyone in the current GOP field about whom they feel enthusiastic.

Nine percent said they are enthusiastic about former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, followed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 8 percent. Next came real estate mogul Donald Trump with 7 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) with 5 percent and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with 4 percent.

Reflecting the sentiment found in the poll, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) on Wednesday said she was less than enthusiastic about the GOP candidates.

"I'll tell you, right now, no one in the field excites me right now," Haley said.

The New York Times/CBS News poll is another sign of some of the hurdles a Republican presidential candidate will face in winning the nomination and beating Obama.

Though it is still early, recent polling has shown most of the candidates have low name recognition.

In a recent interview, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R), who is considering running, said he expects voters to get to know more of t! he GOP field once the campaign ramps up.
