postheadericon Obama to preview deficit speech for congressional leaders

Congressional leaders will head to the White House tomorrow for a meeting to preview President Obama's major speech on the deficit and debt.

Leaders from both parties and both chambers will get a sneak-peek of the plan Obama's plan at a meeting tomorrow.

Both House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will attend, and White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer confirmed over Twitter that other leaders will attend.

White House press secretary Jay Carney repeatedly refused to preview Obama's speech, but Carney did say the president will lay out his "vision" for cutting the deficit.

Carney also went a step further in voicing White House opposition to Rep. Paul Ryan's budget proposal, saying it lacks balance and would cut the d! eficit on the backs of the middle class, the poor and seniors.

When asked if Obama thinks Ryan's proposal is fundamentally unfair, Carney said yes.

The meetings tomorrow reprise, in a way, the closed-door huddles between the president, Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) at the White House last week to hammer out a spending agreement for the remainder of fiscal year 2011. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also acknowledged a meeting on Monday with Obama.
