postheadericon GOP senator: 2012 GOP nominee needs to present 'alternate' vision of America

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said one of the most important tasks for the Republican 2012 presidential nominee is presenting a vision of America that contrasts with President Obama's.

Blunt said some of the Republican governors mulling a presidential run â€" like former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour â€" would thrive in the Oval Office.

"I actually think that we have a number of candidates on my side that could make good presidents," Blunt said in an interview Wednesday on Missouri radio station KMBZ news. "The [question] is whether they could be elected president."

Blunt said the GOP's 2012 nominee should stress America's unique character.

"You have the president's vision that, 'Hey we should be just like every other country in the world,'" Blunt said. "We have to have someone whose vision is that we don't want to be like every other country in the world."
Blunt's comments come as the GOP presidential field continues to sort itself out. Despite unveiling a new website recently, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) on Tuesday said forming a presidential exploratory committee isn't on her radar.

Romney and Pawlenty have already formed their exploratory committees.
