postheadericon Freshman Sen. Blumenthal gets on Twitter

Freshman Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) signed onto Twitter under his official title last week and began tweeting Monday.

With Blumenthal tweeting, 79 percent of the Senate now use the microblogging service.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) welcomed his colleague to Twitter, tweeting “please follow him.” The encouragement might be working; Blumenthal now has 91 followers.

Blumenthal’s first tweet as @SenBlumenthal reads:

It’s not the senator’s first foray into the Twittersphere, however; Blumenthal tweeted as @DickBlumenthal last year during his campaign for the Senate. His campaign account has 2,505 followers.
